Since 2000 the Centre ORT-St.Petersburg Centre in agreement with the Educational Department of the Central district of St. Petersburg and with a financial support of Open Society Institute (George Soros Foundation) realizes the project "Complex solution of Internet access for secondary schools in St. Petersburg".

The aim of the project is to solve a number of content, administrative and psychological problems arising from the use of Internet in educational system. The ORT-St.Petersburg Centre is responsible for the technical and methodical provision of the project and for the retraining of pedagogical staff as well.

  • Technical support of the project participants: the telecommunicational centre was created and equipped by ORT. It provides a frame-relay Internet access for 15 schools.
  • Methodical support of the project: teachers of informatics and other subjects were retrained in the Centre using a specially developed program.
  • Consulting: The ORT-St.Petersburg Centre provides schools-participants with a technical support and consultations in different aspects.
  • This project opens to students wide prospects in use of first-hand information and communication opportunities of the Internet. Teachers also can use the global net as a wide source of methodical and didactical material and as a way of changing experience with their colleagues in other countries.
