Since 1999 ORT-St.Petersburg Centre proceeding with the grant of Open Society Institute (Soros Foundation) develops an Internet/Intranet database for secondary schools.
The aim of the project: to create a special database of a secondary school that can be accessible from any computer of a school local network and through the Internet as well. This database unites all school documentation: students' personal files, school registers, register of material values, students' medical records.
New opportunities:
- The database facilitates an access to the current information and its
analysis for school administration, District Educational Department,
class-masters, teachers and parents.
- Schools and Educational Departments could turn to the remote electronic
documents circulation.
- Database can be used by a number of people at the same time from
different computers both through a local network and the Internet.
- Parents are able to look through the school register and control
their child's marks from their workplace, home or any computer with the
Internet access.
- It will provide lagging pupils with a more effective help and facilitate
the control of progress in studies and attendance by parents and school
administration.
- Easy in operation - this database is available for administration,
teachers and parents through any Internet browser. There are several access
levels and a system of individual passwords and priorities.
- Standard forms and broad possibilities of hypertext are used for
input/output of information.
